About
Indigenous farmer Johnson Mrong (50) of Jhenaigati, Sherpur, learned pineapple growing in Madhupur, Tangail, in 1993. Returning to Sherpur in 2023 he trial-planted pineapples on 50 decimals at Bakakura on the border; spending Tk 50,000 on plants, care, irrigation, fertiliser and labour, he cleared Tk 50,000. In 2024 he planted 100 decimals beside Gajni Abakash in the same upazila and expects a profit of over Tk 1.5 lakh. The pineapples are small but very sweet; after word spread on social media, visitors come from far away to buy them straight from the field. He says he will help interested farmers with plants and advice.
