About
Farmer Monjur Alam, son of Samchhaddin Morol of Patuapara village in Jhikargacha upazila, Jashore, grows chemical-free capsicum on one and a half bigha. The crop, a Dutch hybrid whose seed he brings from India, grows under a locally built shade with a polythene roof and net walls. He sowed seed in seedling trays in late November, transplanted at 26 days, and harvest began when the plants were 55 days old. The field has red and yellow capsicum, each up to 500 grams. In 15 days of picking he has already sold Tk 350,000 of capsicum at a wholesale price of Tk 250 a kg. After Tk 150,000 in costs he expects a profit of at least Tk 1.5 million this year.
