About
Nasrin Jahan set up Nasrin Dairy Farm in 2008 beside her home in Muslimpara, Kalapara municipal town, Patuakhali, starting with three good-breed cows. The farm now has 45 cattle of all sizes, with capital of Tk 1.5 crore. It produces 200 litres of milk a day, sometimes 300–400 litres; milking, cream separation and whey (matha) making are done by machine, and Nasrin supervises milk collection in person. She sells milk wholesale in the local market and also raises and sells cattle. Two employees work on the farm; monthly costs including their pay are about Tk 2.5 lakh. To use the surplus milk she also runs a sweet shop, Mishti Mela; milk and sweets together sell about Tk 8 lakh a month, leaving about Tk 1 lakh profit. Local people take the farm's 7–8 tonnes of cow dung a month free of charge. She won the Bangabandhu National Agriculture Award in 2013, was named best farmer in the district for calf rearing in 2018, and came first at the upazila livestock show in 2020 and 2021. Some 10–20 dairy farms in Barguna, Patuakhali, Kalapara and Mohipur were set up with her backing and planning.
