Nirottam Chakma, a farmer in Khabongpuria on the Chengi riverbank in Khagrachhari, grows sunflowers on 40 decimals. To protect the plants he charges visitors Tk 50 each. Last year ticket sales earned him Tk 10,000, and he expects more this year. Students and people of all ages visit this garden next to Khagrachhari Government Women's College to take photos and stroll. According to the agriculture department, no one else in the district grows sunflowers on this scale beside the hills and river, which is why it draws crowds.
