About
Md. Rabbi, a student from Pangashia village in West Char Umed union, Lalmohan upazila, started keeping pigeons in January 2017, while in class nine, with 3 pairs of local pigeons from his maternal uncle Shahabuddin. What began as a hobby is now commercial, with about 50 pairs. Most squabs are sold from home; grown birds go to village markets, and traders sometimes come to the house to buy them. After costs he keeps Tk 4,000-5,000 a month, which pays for his honours studies at Bhola Government College. His mother Raju Begum looks after the birds while he is at college. Many other students in the village have followed his example.
