About
Md. Rezaul Islam (35), a farmer from Ulipur village in Dinajpur Sadar upazila, started his farm in late 2018 on the advice of a veterinary teacher at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, buying 45 garol lambs with only Tk 50,000 of capital; he began to see profit after two years. The farm now has 230 garol (a large, long-tailed sheep breed). They graze on the large government pasture at Tikli next to his home, so no extra feed is needed. The animals are kept on raised platforms and breed twice a year, giving 2-3 lambs each time. For Eid-ul-Azha 2026 he prepared 40 garol, each expected to give about 50 kg of meat, and hoped to sell each for Tk 40,000-50,000; wholesale buyers had already come to the farm to see them. He now earns Tk 8-10 lakh a year, and the farm employs two formerly jobless young men. He plans to raise dumba (fat-tailed sheep) next.
