Roknuzzaman Sarkar's Mulberry Garden

Roknuzzaman Sarkar (30), son of Abdur Rahim of Balipukur village in Khatta Madhabpara union near the Hili border, Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur, turned to farming after passing SSC instead of chasing a job. Having seen mulberry trees in Sylhet, he brought a sapling and planted it in his litchi orchard two years ago; it fruited the very next year. In 2024 he sold Tk 36,000 worth of mulberries and Tk 28,000 worth of mulberry saplings. The fruit is green at first, then red, and black and very sweet when fully ripe. He has now started growing it commercially for the first time and is raising saplings to spread its cultivation. The upazila agriculture office is supporting him.
