Chhamiul Islam's Strawberry Farm

Chhamiul Islam (36), a farmer from Shibpur village in Ranipukur union, Birol upazila of Dinajpur, has grown strawberries commercially for the second time. He has been known locally for several years for growing high-yield, profitable crops. This season he leased 60 decimals beside his home for Tk 10,000 and, on the agriculture office's advice, planted American Festival strawberries, bringing Tk 20,000 worth of seedlings from Joypurhat in November 2025. The farm now has about 7,000 plants; fruit is ready for sale 70-80 days after planting. He sells strawberries wholesale from the field at Tk 300-400 per kg. His costs were about Tk 1.4 lakh and he expects to sell Tk 2.5 lakh worth. He also grows improved and hybrid tomatoes, chillies and cucumbers, and sells tissue-culture seedlings of several kinds, including strawberry. People from nearby areas come to see the farm and taste the fruit; next year he plans to produce tissue-culture seedlings himself.
