About
Roushan Mahmud of Dinara in Naria Upazila, Shariatpur, started keeping pigeons as a hobby while at school; his interest began as a child going with his father to Bhojeshwar market. Now a university student, he pays for his studies and saves from the pigeon farm he has built in his backyard. Every Friday he brings birds from the farm to the century-old Bhojeshwar market on the Kirtinasha river, sometimes selling and sometimes buying new pigeons for the farm. Besides local birds, the market has Giribaz, Siraji, racing, homer, tippler and fantail pigeons, at Tk 500 to 5,000 a pair depending on breed.
