Imadur Rahman runs a clay tile factory in the Murarikati area of Kalaroa upazila, Satkhira. Kalaroa's terracotta tiles are used on roofs, floors, walls and parking areas and have been exported to Italy and other countries since 2002-03; 'Satkhira clay tiles' are now awaiting GI registration. Imadur Rahman says falling exports and rising shipping costs have put the business in crisis, and he hopes GI registration will help it recover. In the area's factories sandy-loam clay is soaked, shaped in moulds, dried in the sun for 7-15 days and fired in kilns; the article does not give his factory's size or prices.
