About

'Shotodol' is one of the established handicraft houses of Jamalpur town; its proprietor is Maksuda Hasnat. She started in 1997 with only Tk 10,000, making kotis (waistcoats), three-pieces, panjabis, bedsheets and nakshi kantha, first renting a shop in Sowdagar Mansion in the town. Her capital is now over Tk 1 crore; 2,000 workers work regularly under 50 group leaders, and 15 staff work in her own workshop. It has two showrooms in Jamalpur municipal town and a workshop with an embroidery unit and 15 sewing machines. Raw materials come from Islampur in Dhaka, Babur Hat, Cumilla and Narayanganj. It sells Tk 6–7 lakh worth of goods a month; foreign buyers come, choose products and place orders, and ship them abroad themselves.
