About

Barguna writer, journalist and entrepreneur Sohel Hafiz built 'Suronjona Eco Tourism and Resort', a nature-based tourist spot, as a private venture with support from the district administration. It lies 4 km from Barguna town beside the Khakdon and Bishkhali rivers, next to Boroitola ferry ghat in Dholua union (no. 7), Sadar upazila. Decorated with golpata, reeds, hogla leaves and kash grass, it has a grove of 50 rare native tree species, lotus and water-lily ponds named 'Shimul Pukur' and 'Bokul Pukur', more than a thousand fruit trees planted for birds, over a hundred palmyra and date palms, and fish with pearl culture in the ponds. There are open grounds and stages for picnics and outings, a hall for workshops and seminars, 11 cottages (AC and non-AC, couple, single, double and family rooms) and a low-cost dormitory for group tours. Visitors come every day.
