Sweet Home is the cane furniture shop of Bellal Bepari, an experienced craftsman from Shibchar, next to the Public Library in Madaripur town. Bellal has worked in cane craft for four decades and has long made cane furniture. The shop has finely worked cane magazine racks, chairs, sofa sets, trolleys, folding chairs, dining chairs, baby cots and 'nawab' sets. Many buyers used to come from the area and nearby districts, but with cheap plastic goods taking over, sales have halved. He says he has to buy cane at high cost from Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari.
