This homemaker in Matlab South, Chandpur, began selling home-cooked food online in 2023 with 9,000 taka, making cakes, pizza, burgers, rolls, pithas and momos. Orders came through Facebook and went out locally, and the first round of sales returned 15,000 taka of profit on the 9,000 she had put in. Her pricing rests on a cost she knows exactly: a one-pound vanilla cake costs 250-300 taka to make and sells for 550. She now sells more than 100 cakes and over 200 food items a month, earning 50,000-60,000 taka. Three people work in the kitchen, including her younger sister.
