After a Tk 74 lakh cyclone loss, chrysanthemum saplings now earn Tk 18 lakh a year
A Jhikargacha, Jashore grower left rice and jute in 2001 to plant roses and dahlias on one bigha. After cyclone Amphan wrecked his sheds for a loss of about Tk 74 lakh, he focused on chrysanthemum saplings and now nets about Tk 18 lakh a year.
যশোরের ঝিকরগাছার পানিসারা গ্রামের এই চাষি একসময় ধান ও পাট করতেন, খরচ তুলতেই হিমশিম খেতেন। ২০০১ সালে এক বিঘা জমিতে—১০ কাঠায় গোলাপ, ১০ কাঠায় ডালিয়া—ফুল চাষ শুরু করেন। ২০০৮ সালে জারবেরার কথা ভাবেন, পরে পিকেএসএফের আর্থিক সহায়তায় ডাচ গোলাপ, জারবেরা ও কার্নেশন চাষে সাফল্য পান।
বাংলা ট্রিবিউনের প্রতিবেদন অনুযায়ী, ঘূর্ণিঝড় আম্পানে ছয় বিঘার শেড নষ্ট হয়ে প্রায় ৭৪ লাখ টাকার ক্ষতি হয়, তিনি নিঃস্ব হয়ে যান। খেতে থাকা ডাচ গোলাপ ও কার্নেশনের চারা বিক্রি করে আবার শুরু করেন, এবার চন্দ্রমল্লিকায়। প্রায় ৩০০ জাত পরীক্ষা করে দেখেন, অনেক জাতে ফুল ধরলে গাছ নুয়ে পড়ে, বাঁশের খুঁটি লাগে, খরচ বাড়ে। তাই পুনে থেকে আনা যে জাতের গাছ হেলে পড়ে না, সেটিতে মনোযোগ দেন। ২০২২ সালে টিউলিপও চাষ করেছিলেন, তাতে তেমন লাভ হয়নি।
এখন পাঁচ বিঘার পাঁচটি শেডে মাদার প্ল্যান্ট রেখে সারা দেশের নার্সারিতে চারা পাঠান। তাঁর হিসাবে, চন্দ্রমল্লিকার উৎপাদন খরচ আড়াই টাকা, বিক্রি পাঁচ টাকা; অন্য ফুলে লাভ ২০–২৫ শতাংশ। বছর শেষে খরচ বাদে প্রায় ১৮ লাখ টাকা লাভ থাকে বলে জানান।
