Started with 1,200 layers on Tk 13 lakh; within years 25,000 hens and 25,000 eggs a day sent to Dhaka
A young man from Shariatpur saved from tuition and job earnings and in 2022 started 'Amar Khamar' in Ghatail, Tangail, near Dhaka, with Tk 13 lakh. Begun with a friend on 1,200 layers, the farm now has 25,000 hens and sends eggs to Dhaka's wholesale markets in its own transport.
A young man from a middle-class family in Gosairhat, Shariatpur, determined from his university days in 2015, while studying business administration, to do something of his own, saved Tk 2 lakh through tuition and a job at an e-commerce company. He went around Dhaka's Karwan Bazar finding out where goods come from and what wholesale rates are. In 2018 he began in his own village with 1,000 broiler hens and fish in a small pond. But he wanted a farm close to Dhaka, and after talking with a friend chose Ghatail in Tangail. In 2022, with Tk 13 lakh in capital and a friend alongside, 'Amar Khamar' started with 1,200 layer hens. Today it has 25,000 hens, and 25,000 eggs a day reach Dhaka's big wholesale markets and shops in the farm's own transport. Beyond that he has 1,800 papaya trees and an orchard of 4,500 sagar banana plants in Tangail and Mymensingh, and seasonal crop projects from Chuadanga to Jashore. Thirty-two staff work there. He says he gives farmers advice on disease and market prices through digital monitoring, and plans to open an agri resort by 2026. The report gives no cost or profit figures.
Lessons
- 1.Start by knowing the market: visiting Karwan Bazar to learn sources and rates was his preparation.
- 2.A farm near Dhaka lets you deliver eggs directly to wholesale markets in your own transport, cutting middlemen and time.
- 3.He began with 1,200 hens and grew step by step, also opening separate income streams such as fruit and banana.
