93,000 taka for an acre of bananas, 2.5 lakh of sales in seven months

Back from working abroad, he planted 320 saplings on one acre in June 2024: 13,000 taka of saplings and 80,000 on labour, fertiliser, pesticide and irrigation. Bearing began at 10 months, and seven months of selling has brought about 250,000 taka, clearing 30,000-40,000 a month.

Years of work in Saudi Arabia had not changed his situation, so this 55-year-old from Chunti Sufi Nagar Baghanpara in Lohagara, Chattogram, came home and in June 2024 planted 320 Meher Sagar banana saplings on one acre. The saplings cost 40 taka each, 13,000 taka in all, and labour, fertiliser, pesticide and irrigation took a further 80,000. The plants took about ten months to come into bearing, and at the time of the report he had been selling for seven months. At an average of 500 taka a bunch he has taken in about 250,000 taka so far and clears 30,000 to 40,000 a month. He expects roughly 350,000 taka net per acre per year and has already added another two bighas. As he puts it, the sapling money is a first-year cost that will not come again.
