A thousand plants on the roof, over a lakh taka a month

Started in late 2021, the rooftop now holds over a thousand plants including 200-plus adenium varieties. Average monthly income exceeds a lakh taka, and August sales reached 3 lakh.

After years of losing gardens in rented houses, this entrepreneur in Mohanpur, Rajshahi, built a house designed around her plants, beginning the venture in late 2021 and moving in on 14 January 2022. Her collection now exceeds a thousand plants: more than 200 adenium varieties, over 60 aglaonema, 65-plus orchids, about 100 succulents, over 100 snake plants and 50 cactus varieties, alongside bonsai, fruit trees and vegetables. She sells ornamental and rare plants as well as vegetables and fruit, both online and from the premises. Average monthly income exceeds one lakh taka, and in August her sales reached three lakh. Eight to ten people work at peak times, two regular staff earn 12,000 to 18,000 taka a month, and the others work on commission.
