From yogurt as a hobby to 310-330 kg a day, with demand still 50 kg ahead

Some 620-650 litres of milk a day become 310-330 kg of yogurt. Eight lakh taka went into the factory, five lakh into distribution vehicles and six lakh into land, and demand still runs about 50 kg a day ahead of supply.

This 40-year-old from Madapur union in Rajbari Sadar left university for financial reasons and gave up a madrasa teaching post in 2014 to keep cattle. He began making yogurt as a hobby from his own cows' surplus milk, which meant the product was tested before any plant was bought, and turned it into a business in late 2018. He now makes 310-330 kg of yogurt a day from 620-650 litres of milk, with seven people in production and distribution supplying Kushtia town and the surrounding area. Eight lakh taka has gone into the factory, five lakh into two motorcycles and a battery auto-rickshaw for distribution, and six lakh into land. Demand still runs about 50 kg a day ahead of what he can make, and farmers nearby have added cattle specifically to sell him milk. Total capital and monthly profit are not separately stated in the report.
