One gifted goat became 80 in four years, after early deaths from wrong feed and disease
A university student in Rupganj, Narayanganj built a rooftop goat farm from one Jamunapari goat gifted in 2018. With no grazing land, the first goat died of wrong feed, and many more died of disease in the first 18 months.
নারায়ণগঞ্জের রূপগঞ্জের রূপসীতে কলকারখানা বাড়ায় কৃষিজমি ও চারণভূমি কমে গেছে। সেখানে এক তরুণ, জগন্নাথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্নাতকোত্তরের শিক্ষার্থী, ফুফুর ৮০টির বেশি ছাগলের খামারে হাতে-কলমে শিখেছিলেন। ২০১৮ সালে ফুফু তাঁকে বাচ্চাসহ একটি যমুনাপাড়ি ছাগল উপহার দেন।
প্রথম আলোর প্রতিবেদন অনুযায়ী, চারণভূমি না থাকায় ঘাসের অভাবে না বুঝে নানা কিছু খাওয়ানোয় এক সপ্তাহের মধ্যে মা ছাগলটি মারা যায়, তবে তার আগে দুটি বাচ্চা দেয়। প্রথম দেড় বছরে রোগবালাই সম্পর্কে জ্ঞানের ঘাটতিতে বেশ কিছু ছাগল মারা যায়। কোভিডে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বন্ধ থাকার সময় তিনি দক্ষ হন। পাল বড় হলে ছাগল প্রতিবেশীদের বাড়িতে ঢুকে অভিযোগ আসে, সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায়ও কয়েকটি মারা যায়; তখন বাধ্য হয়ে বাড়ির ছাদে পালন শুরু করেন।
খাবারের জন্য তিনি কারখানার খালি জায়গার ঘাস বিনা পয়সায় কেটে আনেন—কারখানাগুলো পরিষ্কারের খরচ বাঁচাতে তাঁকেই খবর দেয়—আর আশপাশের বাড়ির কাটা ডালপালা সংগ্রহ করেন। চার বছরে খামারে অন্তত ৮০টি ছাগল জন্মেছে; প্রতিবেদনের সময় ছাদে ২০ থেকে ৩০টি ছাগল ছিল। এক বন্ধু অনলাইনে ছাগল বিক্রির ব্যবস্থা করেন। প্রতিবেদনে আয়ের নির্দিষ্ট অঙ্ক দেওয়া হয়নি।
