Catering training taken in 2022 never became work, because there was no money for equipment or ingredients. A survey of 2,000 trained women found 44 percent had set up nothing six months on.

This woman in Shyamnagar upazila, Satkhira, took catering training in 2022 under the Jatiya Mahila Sangstha, hoping to earn something against the household's money troubles. She finished the training but never got a business running, because she had no money to buy what catering needs. Pots, gas and bulk ingredients all have to be paid for before the first order arrives, and training does not bridge that gap. She has made no regular income from the skill. An IMED survey of 2,000 trained women across 16 centres found 44 percent had set up no work six months after training, and her case is one of those. The report gives no figures for what she needed or what she earned.
