Ducklings at 26 taka, eggs to the hatchery at 11-12

Twenty years of duck rearing. He is raising 400 ducklings bought at 26 taka each, sells eggs to hatcheries at 11-12 taka, and recently sold 200 ducks for 70,000 taka.

This farmer from Chandibhog village in Tarash, Sirajganj, has been rearing ducks for 20 years. He buys day-old ducklings at 26 taka each from a hatchery in his own neighbourhood and is currently raising 400 of them. Once the flock comes into lay he expects 350 to 370 eggs a day - an expectation for the months ahead, not money already taken. Because the nearby hatcheries need fertile eggs, he sells to them at 11-12 taka apiece instead of going to the table-egg market. He recently sold a batch of 200 ducks for 70,000 taka. Sitting inside a hatchery cluster puts both his duckling supply and his egg buyers within walking distance.
