Saiful Islam Minu, born in Manikganj and formerly in business in Dhaka, settled around 1995 on the border of Dhala village (Balipara union, Trishal upazila) and Lakkhanpur village (Gafargaon upazila) in Mymensingh, an area where 80 percent of people work in hatcheries or fish farming. In 2007 he rented land and began raising exotic ornamental fish on a small scale, first breeding fry from six koi carp brought from Japan. As demand grew he began farming about 24 species brought from Thailand, Malaysia and China commercially. His 30-bigha 'Al-Amin Assorted Hatchery and Fisheries' has 26 ponds: one holds about 5,000 ornamental fish and the rest hold native fish. His fish went to many parts of the country and abroad. The farm also has eight foreign-breed dogs, cats, many kinds of birds, local and foreign fruit trees, cactus, flowers and vegetables, looked after by five workers. Locally he is known as the 'colourful fish farmer', and visitors come to see the farm every day.
