About
Abdul Momin of Bijra village, Laksam upazila, Cumilla, went to Qatar in 1980, where his Al Naimi Landscaping Nursery has run for 30 years. He used to import plants from Italy, Thailand, Malaysia, Holland and China; later he decided to source from Bangladesh and set up a nursery in Ghoshpa village of Barura upazila, next to Bijra, naming it Bijra Enterprise. He shipped his first saplings to Qatar by sea in June 2021, and several consignments have since gone by air; he hopes exports will reach a crore taka a year. Exported saplings include China malta, poisa malta, Amrapali mango, Thai guava, local mango, golapjam, Thai jamrul, kau, deuwa (monkey jack) and coconut. The social forestry department helped with setting up the nursery and with export clearance.
