Iqbal Hossain, a farmer in Noyabhangoni village, Chhoto Baishdia union, Rangabali upazila, Patuakhali, grows watermelon on 20 acres. In the 2022 season his 20 acres cost Tk 10 lakh and he sold 40,000 watermelons. In 2023 he again planted 20 acres and expected 45,000-50,000 fruit. Galachipa and Rangabali grow the most watermelon in the district; wholesale traders from Dhaka and elsewhere pay advances before the season and ship the fruit from the chars by trawler, launch and truck to Dhaka and other regions.
