Md. Toyobur Rahman, a watermelon grower in Kholisakhali village, Alipura union, Dashmina upazila, Patuakhali, planted early-variety watermelon on four acres in 2025. He spent about Tk 3.2 lakh until the fruit set, and hoped to sell Tk 8-9 lakh worth if the weather held. At the time watermelons in Dashmina's fields weighed about 5 kg each, and wholesale buyers from around the country had started arriving. The upazila agriculture office visits the fields regularly and gives advice.
