Md. Nizam Uddin Faraji farms on Madhupur char in the Meghna, Madanpur union, Doulatkhan upazila, Bhola, growing early vegetables and watermelon on a large scale. In a 2023 Prothom Alo report this Madanpur farmer said he had five acres of vegetables and 15 acres of watermelon that season; watermelon from Madhupur and Boiragi chars goes by trawler to districts across the country. In 2024 he grew early vegetables on seven and a half acres; tidal surge and rain from Cyclone Midhili destroyed most plants, a loss of about Tk 17 lakh. He re-sowed and brought seedlings from other districts to replant capsicum, snake gourd and ridge gourd. Farmers on this char pack vegetables in large sacks (dhop), send them by trawler to Lakshmipur and then by truck to Karwan Bazar in Dhaka. Madhupur char is known for capsicum and other early vegetables.
