Nurul Haque (60) of Hajipara, Islampur, in Eidgaon upazila of Cox's Bazar, rears and sells Jalali pigeons. At the Friday bird market in Cox's Bazar town he once brought 14 pairs of Jalali pigeons and sold 8 pairs at Tk 2,000 a pair, earning Tk 16,000. In his words, pigeons kept properly bring a profit on little capital: a pigeon gives a pair of squabs every month, and a pair of squabs sells for Tk 300–400.
