About
In Daherpar village, Sreebordi, Sherpur, six friends — A S M Azizul Hasan, Abu Raihan, Shamsuzzaman, Shahadat Hossain, Billal Hossain and Sarkar Zubayer Hossain — run a dragon fruit garden. After their business suffered losses during the pandemic they decided to invest in farming and leased 50 decimals of land for Tk 3 lakh. In 2022 they planted 800 saplings from the Gazipur agricultural research centre on 200 posts; the total cost was Tk 5 lakh. The first crop was good: selling at Tk 200–250 a kg, they had sold about Tk 1 lakh worth. Traders come to the garden to buy. They use organic manure and no chemical fertiliser; May to August is the best season. The upazila agriculture office has visited and advised them.
